Join the NEW HUSKY Dental Program

Helping our Connecticut Children and Families

What is HUSKY?

The HUSKY Plan is a subsidized health insurance program to help Connecticut families obtain and afford coverage for their children. It offers a full package for children and teenagers up to age 19, regardless of family income. HUSKY pays for doctor visits, prescriptions, vision care, dental care, and much more. HUSKY is now serving over 230,000 children and teens in Connecticut’s working families – keeping kids healthy and helping the family budget. HUSKY can also provide health coverage for some parents, relative care-givers, and pregnant women, depending on income. It is a joint program of the State of Connecticut and the Federal government.

By becoming a HUSKY dental provider, you’ll be providing services and assisting children who really need your help. One in four Connecticut children is enrolled in the HUSKY program. Their families cannot afford to provide needed medical or dental care with out HUSKY. HUSKY children in our state need caring dentists to provide needed care…they need dentists like YOU!

A Fact Sheet for Dental Providers has been developed to provide additional information on the HUSKY program. Click Here to download and print a copy of the Fact Sheet.

It’s not the same ol’ HUSKY!

A lot of changes and systematic improvements are being made to the HUSKY program. As of April 1, 2008, a new HUSKY Medicaid fee schedule went into effect for currently enrolled HUSKY providers. In addition, dental services provided under the HUSKY program will be “carved out” from the Medicaid managed care system as of July 1, 2008. That means that there will be a single Administrative Services Organization (ASO) instead of several Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) that previously administered claims and payments for the HUSKY Program. In addition, the new HUSKY program will include Care Coordinators who will work with the HUSKY clients to ensure that they are able to honor their appointments. All of these changes will help make the HUSKY program more provider friendly.

What are the new rates, and when can I begin to take advantage of them?

If you are currently enrolled as a HUSKY provider, you can immediately take advantage of the new reimbursement rates. If you are not a current Medicaid HUSKY provider you can enroll now with EDS, the organizations handling all credentialing and claims payments for the new HUSKY program. If you enroll now, you will be all set to participate in the program and updated fee schedule once the new dental carve out program goes into effect on July 1, 2008. Once you are enrolled with EDS, you will not be asked to enroll again or to submit additional information.

Below is a chart that shows some sample rates. The full fee schedule is available at Click Here [PDF] (please note that the dental codes begin toward the bottom of page 9).

How do I sign up?

You may print out the paper enrollment and submit them by mail, or enroll online. The enrollment package is the same for all HUSKY Medicaid providers, it is not specific to dentistry. The process usually only takes about 30 minutes to read and complete the necessary forms. The packet is 44 pages long, but only eight pages need to be filled out. Please note that if you elect to enroll online, you must complete all forms at once, and you cannot save information for completion at a later date.

Ensure a “clean” enrollment!

WHEN ENROLLING TO BE A HUSKY PROVIDER, PLEASE UTILIZE THE Tip Sheet [PDF] for Enrolling in HUSKY/Medicaid for step-by-step instructions and hints to correctly complete your enrollment forms the first time!

Questions about the enrollment forms or process?

If you need help or have questions, please call EDS directly at 1-800-842-8440 (toll-free in state) or 860-269-2028 (in the Farmington area)
